He died after he had been shot and severely assaulted by residents and ANC supporters in Orkney, Transvaal, on 21 July 1991. The perpetrators believed he was linked to the ‘Kofifi’ vigilante group. Three ANC supporters were granted amnesty for the incident (AC/97/0006).
