An ANC supporter who was imprisoned in 1986 and in 1991 in Wartburg, Natal, and had his home burnt down by Inkatha supporters in Swayimane, Table Mountain, near Pietermaritzburg, on 17 July 1989. Mr Gwala was involved in underground structures of the ANC and the Swayimane Civic Association.
