Was severely burnt in a petrol bomb attack on the vehicle in which he was travelling in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on 15 April 1993. One person was burnt to death and another was injured in the attack, which took place during widespread unrest following the assassination of the SACP leader, Chris Hani.
