LOZA, Nkwenkwe Elijah

Age 59

Description
A trade unionist and ANC member who was detained in Cape Town for six months and severely tortured in 1963. He was then placed under banning orders for ten years, reimposed in November 1976. He was detained on 27 May 1977 and died in custody on 2 August that year. It is probable that he was again tortured in 1977 by the Security Police and that this contributed to his cause of death, which was officially found to be natural causes, after suffering a stroke.
