His house and possessions were destroyed in an arson attack near Eshowe, Natal, on 7 November 1993, when IFP supporters attacked several ANC supporters in the KwaKhoza and Nogobhoza areas, KwaZulu. One person was killed. More than forty five homes were burnt down, allegedly under the direction of the local IFP-supporting chief, in an effort to drive ANC supporters from the area.
