Was severely assaulted by supporters of Chief Mapela in Abbotspoort, Pietersburg, Transvaal, on 19 January 1981 because she was a supporter of his opponent, Chief Lerumo. Conflict over chieftaincy in the region resulted in several villagers being beaten, lashed, fined, or having their children expelled from school in an attempt to force their allegiance to Chief Mapela.
