An ANC supporter and former Ingwenyama (king) of the Ndzdundza Ndebele, had his home petrol bombed by members of the KwaNdebele Police in KwaNdebele, Transvaal, on 19 June 1987 because he opposed the proposed independence of KwaNdebele. Mr Mahlangu was the recognised traditional leader of the area during the conflict in the mid-1980s.
