Was hacked with pangas by hostel-dwellers in Mzimhlophe, Soweto, Johannesburg, on 24 August 1976 during conflict between residents and hostel-dwellers. Two of his brothers died with him when violence erupted after hostel-dwellers supported the state in their brutal suppression of the Soweto uprising.
