He suffered damage to property when his home in Mangaung, Bloemfontein, was petrol-bombed by members of the Orange Free State Security Branch, in the 1980s. They allegedly believed him to be a UDF supporter. A Security Branch operative was granted amnesty (AC/1999/0026).
