Was killed by alleged members of the SAP in Mafikeng, Bophuthatswana, on 13 March 1978 shortly after visiting his daughter in exile in Botswana. Lichtenburg police told his wife he died of a heart attack but the death certificate states he died of injuries sustained in a car crash.
