A civic activist who was arrested and subjected to electric shock torture by members of the SAP at Uranjoville police station, Jouberton, Klerksdorp, Transvaal, during December 1991. Mr Maretlwa was leading a residents` campaign to dismiss the local council and cancel all arrears on communal services.
