He had his home burnt down in Moganyaka, Lebowa, in November 1990 by named supporters of the chief because Mr Matlala questioned the use of community funds. Mr Matlala and a fellow community activist were reportedly sentenced to death by the chief and were to be burnt alive in their homes.
