Description
As the wife of Chief Ampie Mayisa, she had her home burnt down by vigilantes in Lebohang, Leandra, Transvaal, on 11 January 1986. Her husband was also beaten to death by named vigilantes. The perpetrators confessed killing the chief to the press, but were sheltered by the police. Conflict erupted in the area when the state attempted to forcibly remove the community after it was declared a `black spot`.
