Was arrested, together with her family, in Hibberdene, Natal, on 1 November 1987 and detained for four days. Members of the SAP allegedly accused her father of being involved in political activity. They surrounded the house and forced the family out using teargas. Ms Mazibuko was mauled by a police dog when she was put into the police van. Her father was shot dead in the incident.
