A union shopsteward who was severely assaulted, then detained and tortured in Botshabelo, near Bloemfontein, on 29 September 1986, on suspicion of belonging to the ANC. The incident occurred during a five day strike. Mr Mfazwe was detained and assaulted on four other occasions between 1987 and 1990, allegedly because of his political activities.
