She died after being raped and hanged by IFP supporters in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu, near Durban, on 22 January 1991, in ongoing conflict in the area. The perpetrators abducted her and her four-year-old child when they could not find another member of the family. They were taken to an abandoned house where she was raped and killed and her child suffocated.
