He lost his home in Lebohang, Leandra, Orange Free State (OFS), during August 1984, when UDF supporters and local residents razed it to the ground. Mr Mlotshwa was the mayor of Lebohang township, an informal settlement, whose residents lived under the constant threat of being removed and incorporated into the Homelands. One UDF supporter applied for and was granted amnesty for the arson attack (AC/2001/071).
