A NUM member and shopsteward who was detained by the SAP and assaulted in Welkom, OFS, on 30 April 1984, for his role in organising a strike in the Vaal Reef mines. Mr Mofokeng went into exile on 28 January1986 and, according to the ANC, died in a UNITA ambush in Angola on 13 October 1988.
