She had her home in Soshanguve, Pretoria, damaged when two hand grenades thrown by members of the SADF exploded on 30 May 1986. Mankitseng`s father was an executive member of the Soshanguve Residents Association and was active in the UDF. At the time the UDF had increased its influence with mass campaigns in and around Pretoria. Prior to this incident there had been four unsuccessful arson attacks on the Mosalo home.
