Was shot and injured by Inkatha supporters on 24 January 1988, and shot dead by unidentified gunmen on 4 July 1988 in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, in intensifying political conflict between UDF and Inkatha supporters in the area. In the same year he was also detained and assaulted by members of the SAP.
