Was severely assaulted by hostel-dwellers on 24 August 1976 at the Mzimhlope train station, Soweto, Johannesburg, in the wake of the Soweto uprising. The State encouraged hostel-dwellers to attack members of the community who adhered to a stayaway called to protest the continued violence against protesting students. Mr Musandiwa lost his hand as a result of his injuries.
