A Poqo activist who was convicted in 1963, together with twenty other Poqo members, for their attempt to rescue their ‘comrades’ who were charged with the death of a headman in Transkei. Three Poqo members were sentenced to death and sixteen others, including Mr Ncanda, were sentenced to twenty years’ imprisonment on Robben Island.
