Was detained in Newcastle, Natal, in November 1986, and was tortured with beatings and burning handcuffs by SADF members and a named member of the Special Branch. Police were detaining any Newcastle residents who might possibly be harbouring MK activists, as the area was considered the activists’ entry point into the country.
