An MK operative and two others were abducted in Phoenix, Durban, on 18 November 1988 by Port Natal Security Branch operatives. The three were taken to a railway line in Phoenix, told to kneel down and shot dead. Their hands were placed on a limpet mine, which was then detonated to create the impression that they had blown themselves up. Five Port Natal Security Branch operatives, including the divisional commander, were granted amnesty (AC/2001/112).
