Was shot and injured by members of the SAP in Crossroads, Cape Town, in February 1985. His right eye was permanently damaged in the shooting. Eighteen people were shot dead and hundreds were wounded in a three-day clash from 18 to 21 February when Crossroads residents resisted a forced removal to Khayelitsha.
