Was shot dead by members of the SAP in Sharpeville, Vereeniging, Transvaal, during the Sharpeville massacre on 21 March 1960. Police opened fire on a crowd of unarmed people holding a peaceful protest against the Pass Laws, killing sixty nine people and injuring several others.
