Was severely beaten, tear-gassed, detained and subjected to electric shocks by members of the Bophuthatswana Defence Force on 1 July 1989 at her home in Zeerust, Tvl. Ms Sekgabi resisted the forced incorporation of Mokgola into Bophuthatswana following a government decree which transferred 25 000 residents from South Africa into Bophuthatswana during 1989.
