He lost his home in an arson attack by ANC youths on 6 October 1991 in Peelton, Ciskei. The attack occurred during the mass occupation of land that took place in the 1991 and 1992 land campaign in the area. The victim was targeted because he supported the local headmen and chiefs’ position regarding the size of sites allocated.
