He had his house destroyed in an arson attack by IFP supporters in Ratanda, near Heidelberg, Transvaal, on 23 November 1992. At the time there was a labour dispute between striking COSATU-affiliated FAWU workers and non-striking IFP-affiliated UWUSA workers. The conflict in the area between June and December 1992 included attacks on homes and the petrol bombing of buses taking workers to and from work.
