Was assaulted, stabbed and shot dead in in Ntuzuma, near Durban, on 22 December 1993 by IFP supporters who stopped the car in which he and his sons were travelling home. One son was killed in the attack. The other survived after managing to escape from the boot of the car into which the attackers had put him.
