Description
An APLA member and former BPC official who was shot dead by Basotho paramilitary force members in March 1985 at Qacha’s Nek, Lesotho, close to the Lesotho-Transkei border. Five other APLA members died in this incident, which occurred at a time of increased LLA activity in the area, aimed at destabilising the pro-ANC government of Chief Leabua Jonathan. The Basotho security forces claimed they had mistaken the APLA unit for LLA members. APLA and the LLA were closely connected at the time. Mr Zani was a final-year law student at the National University of Lesotho and acting PAC re p resentative in Lesotho at the time of his death.
