A-Team (OFS)

Explanation
The A-Team, also known as the 'Phakathis' was a vigilante group set up and headed by a well-known local councillor in the Thabong area of Welkom to counter the activities of the UDF primarily, and in a smaller measure, the ANC. The A-Team carried out a reign of terror in several areas of the province, particularly in Thabong and Parys, under the guise of 'maintaining order'. In at least one case, the A-Team is alleged to have been supported by police and municipal structures.

MR COETZEE: He confirmed that the meeting had taken place at the underground house in Fountains Mmbabane. Furthermore he informed us that the group just wanted him to drive them around to go drinking and had not discussed any underground work with him whatsoever. According to SWT180 it was ...
The Soviet must be stopped in Southern Africa. We need your help as a team to stand up against the evil
MR WILLIAMSON: No, Mr Chairman, it isn't incorrect. As I have already said about the so-called final briefing, it was not merely a final briefing in that everybody sat and heard everything. We were gathered in a flat and there were various discussions, there was a briefing by the Brigadier and as ...
DR BASSON: I understand it at this stage, after I tried to contact the legal representatives this morning, that Mr Cilliers will not be available tomorrow and would perhaps be available on Friday. As I understand it the other members of the team will also not be available on these two days.
MR FORTUIN: Is there anyone that you are going to call to confirm that you were a member of the Task Team of the PAC?
MR LAMEY: And during the team-building function which was held at Island Rock, you were transferred back to C1 under instruction of Brig Schoon.
They put me in solitary confinement for three consecutive days. The team of warrant officer Chibambo, Noqi Tsahoge, Constable Tsahoge, this was the team which used to come to my cell and start torturing me.
MR RAS: Chairperson, when I made the statement I was one of the first who made a statement with the investigating team and I cannot recall specifically. At that stage persons entered my memory and I may have been mistaken regarding Snor Vermeulen, Dawid Britz, Blackie Swart and Sakkie Morkel. The ...
DR MYBURGH: I was just one of a team that have grown to a size of about 35 people of the Mpiliswane Saca Clinic in Crossroads, a Clinic that ran from 1980 until its demise in 1986.
MR RAS: No, I didn't make a statement in the case against him. Afterwards I went to the special investigating team and said I would make a full disclosure but in his case I didn't testify.
MR MAMASELA: I went with the Special Investigation team of the Attorney General, that was the first and the last time I ever went there, I never went there again.
MR RAUTENBACH: Mr Chairman, the second point I would just like to raise was, fortunately this one doesn’t call for a ruling of any nature, is that I just want to place it on record that the family intends to call the witness who has been referred to as Bheki Nkosi. I have already made arrangements ...
Mr Mohale had already made those statements, he implicated me in Mr Songo's case, he implicated Mr Radebe and Mr Thwala in Mr Namane's case. How on earth could we have been able, even if we had the best legal team in the world, I don't think we would have succeeded to try and twist these things ...
MR LAMEY: Yes. Now if that is so Mr Mamasela and if we assume it's correct that this photograph number 13, the room with the rings in it is in the house on photograph number 8 and if we assume that is correct and Mr Mogoai - and if we assume it's correct that Mr Mogoai pointed that house out to ...
MR POTGIETER: I cannot say right now that I knew it but I'm assuming this, that he as a member of the investigating component, which formed a part of the team, would have had this as his task or his duty. However, I must say that Mr du Toit's statement is that he spent a brief time at the security ...
"I gave these hand grenades to Eugene de Kock and his team"
MR LE ROUX: Yes Chairperson, we redeployed ourselves with some adaptations. We wanted to cover a larger area as to when the vehicle would stop that we could be able to see it. The vehicle arrived, it stopped, it killed the headlights, we started moving closer. I specifically was behind a wire ...
Botha testified that he and his colleagues were told by De Kock to get themselves ready for a cross-border operation in Swaziland.  He told them that they were going to ambush "ANC terrorists" who were about to infiltrate the country.  The aim of the ambush was to stop them from doing so.  ...
MR RICHARD: And lower down there was entire rugby team waiting to get on to the bus, did you see the bus?
MR VISSER: Chairperson, we would have to speculate, we don't know where he was from, we believe it was the so-called D'Oliviera team, but I don't want to ... But the point is that this conversation took place at, apparently, at CR Swart Square, but even that may be wrong. I don't want to limit it ...
