A UDF-supporting student activist who was kicked and beaten by members of the SAP on 31 August 1985 while in detention at the Lady Grey police station, Cape. Mr Chabeli was accused of burning down a beerhall. The police assaulted him because they wanted to know who was responsible for the ‘violence’ in the townships.
