During his detention, he was assaulted and tortured while under interrogation about his political activities. | References | | MATOMELA, Qinisekile Jeffrey | 34 | A UDF supporter who was stabbed and assaulted with pick handles on 1 April 1987 during conflict between AmaAfrika and UDF supporters in Uitenhage, Cape. | References | | MATONG, Gilbert Kgomotso | 23 | An ANCYL member who was arrested and tortured in August 1993 by members of the Bophuthatswana Police at Itoseng, Bophuthatswana, when he insisted on accompanying his colleague who had been arrested. | References | | MATONSI, Pumzile Esther | 73 | She had her house burnt down at Machibini, KwaZulu, near Mandini, Natal, in November 1993 in political conflict between IFP and ANC supporters in the area. The attack was targeted at her son, who was an ANC supporter. Ms Matoti was severely tortured and sexually assaulted by members of the Transkei Security Branch. Two days after her detention, she was admitted to hospital, where she spent seven months. She was then detained for three months under emergency regulations. See police brutality. | References | | MATOTO, Mpoye Elias | 22 | An ANC supporter who was severely beaten by members of the SAP after his arrest in Tembisa, Transvaal, on 31 July 1985 because of his involvement in organising community meetings. | References | | MATOTO, Richard Ntsikelelo | 22 | An ANC supporter who was shot dead by members of the SAP in Middelburg, Cape, on 15 February 1986. | References | | MATROOS, Aleta | | The wife of an Amasolomzi vigilante who was stabbed and injured by a named UDF supporter in Zolani, Ashton, Cape, on 8 April 1986, during conflict between residents and the Amasolomzi. Ms Matroos had been a state witness in a court case against several UDF supporters. | References | | MATROOS, Mziwamadoda Paulos | 17 | Was beaten on his arrest in Zolani, Ashton, Cape, on 20 November 1985. He was one of over 100 Zolani residents arrested and accused of burning the homes of Amasolomzi vigilante members. Thirty-two residents were finally sentenced to prison terms. He fled the country, returning in 1986 when he was again arrested on 29 September 1986 in Worcester and held under section 29. He then served five years of a 14-year prison sentence. | References | | MATSABA, Lephallo Abel | | Was tortured by members of the SAP while in police custody in Kroonstad, Orange Free State (OFS), in 1991. He had been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a member of the Three Million gang. | References | | MATSABO, Abel | | Was shot at by NUMSA members during a strike at the Haggie Rand factory in Cleveland, Johannesburg, on 24 November 1989.
