Was thrown from the first floor of Ngoye University by members of the SAP in Empangeni, Natal, on 18 June 1976 when the Soweto uprising spread throughout the country. The police allegedly evacuated the campus by force and Mr Mathe fell and injured his head. He still receives medication for mental illness as a result of his injuries.
