Was shot dead by IFP supporters in Tigane, Hartbeesfontein, Transvaal, on 14 May 1993 during a confrontation between IFP and ANC youths. Mr Matlhoko was reportedly trying to assist a friend targeted by the IFP supporters when he was killed.
