The Lesotho Government rendered a formal protest and Mr Mbali was returned to Lesotho. Prior to his death he had attended a meeting called by Chief Samuel Mdutshane, where ANC supporters were either killed or stabbed. He escaped unharmed and thereafter refused to attend any meetings convened by the chief.
