Was shot and severely injured by members of the SAP in Botshabelo, near Bloemfontein, on 15 February 1990, while participating in a protest march against the incorporation of Botshabelo into QwaQwa. Police set up roadblocks and fired teargas in an attempt to stop marchers reaching the Supreme Court in Bloemfontein. Four people were killed and many injured when police opened fire. Ms Pole lost her sight in one eye as a result of the shooting.
