Her home was burnt down by unidentified perpetrators in Katlehong, Transvaal, in 1992. Her husband was shot dead outside his supermarket in a separate incident. Both incidents occurred at a time of heightened tension between IFP-supporting hostel-dwellers and ANC-supporting residents in the area.
