Operation Zero Zero

Explanation
Eight young activists were killed and at least seven were injured in explosions involving booby-trapped hand grenades in Duduza, KwaThema and Tsakane, Tvl, on 26 June 1985. The zero-timed grenades had been provided by a Vlakplaas operative purporting to be an MK operative. The operation, codenamed 'Zero Zero', had been authorised by the Minister of Law and Order. Fifteen Security Branch operatives, including the head of the Security Branch and other senior personnel, were granted amnesty for the operation.

MR BEESLAAR: I can only state that I was not inebriated because Col de Kock's instructions were that no liquor should be consumed before or during an operation. My share was remote but due to my minor share, I nonetheless respected the instructions of Mr de Kock and obeyed them as such.

... Musi and them but listen then, make a plan, you know, show, you know, draw a sketch plan of their houses etc., you know, one doesn't embark on an operation like this without a sketch plan. Or it could be that Musi had said, look these are our plans, we've got a sketch plan. But the point is ...
MR RAUTENBACH: I want to ask you Mr Mostert, you reach this point. It was the second time that he had been shocked, it’s the second time that he had jerked and still there is no co-operation. How would it proceed now? What was in your mind? What were you thinking?

MR KOOPEDI: Okay, now do you know if anyone was injured in this operation, injured or killed?
MR MHLABA: So is it your case, Mr Motlokoa, that in killing the deceased, Peacock Tsosane, you were furthering the interests of your political organisation and ensuring the smooth operation of the Self Defence Units?
