Operation Zero Zero

Explanation
Eight young activists were killed and at least seven were injured in explosions involving booby-trapped hand grenades in Duduza, KwaThema and Tsakane, Tvl, on 26 June 1985. The zero-timed grenades had been provided by a Vlakplaas operative purporting to be an MK operative. The operation, codenamed 'Zero Zero', had been authorised by the Minister of Law and Order. Fifteen Security Branch operatives, including the head of the Security Branch and other senior personnel, were granted amnesty for the operation.

MR VISSER: And furthermore you had nothing to do with the operation?
MR RICHARD: And the command structures above you approved of the operation of attacking Mr Skosana?

We then realised that the aims of the SDU were being defeated because of the co-operation between these people and the ISU. SANCO then took a decision that plans had to be made so that Bongi and the others could be won over to the side of the residents once again.
MR POTSANE: In terms of carrying out the operation. As I've already stated I was staying with the commander, that is Jabu Masina in Mamelodi and during the process of which, I think when the reconnaissance was started two weeks before, as Mr Masango has already said ...[intervention]
